Perfect Elbow Escape from Mount

Elbow escape is truly a fundamental technique which needs to be mastered early in the jiu jitsu journey.

The principles behind the elbow escape can be used to escape the variety of positions and situations.

To master the elbow escape it is crucial to establish proper arm frames and perform a proper bridging technique. All of which you will learn in the video below.

Key Details:

  • Establish frame: one forearm goes across opponents hips, preventing the high mount, while the elbow of the second hand goes inside the opponent’s knee
  • Turn on to the side of the inside elbow position
  • Invert the leg so the foot is higher than the knee (on the side of the inside elbow position)
  • Catch the opponents foot with the opposite leg
  • Shift your hips

Technique breadown:

The forearm across the opponent’s hips is preventing high mount position while the inside elbow position makes it possible to capture the opponent’s foot and begin the process of elbow escape.

To get the knee inside your opponent’ knee you need to be able to perform the proper shrimping movement
